Our story so far...

Shaw Cavill is the landlord at the Chequers Pub in Loose, he has been there for 4 years and in that time has worked very hard to turn it into a successful thriving pub and restaurant business. Previous to this he was in charge of a large chain of restaurants in London, his claim to fame is being fired from every job he has ever had! He strives for perfection and likes to do things his way. A born leader with a great business head so naturally he was always destined to work for himself and become his own boss.

David Marshall started his career path in London’s 5 star restaurants. He went to Quaglinos aged 17 as a chef de partie and quickly worked his way up the chef ladder, he was senior sous chef at The Royal Garden Hotel, winning many awards and accolades along the way. David was the youngest Executive Head Chef in London when he was 23 years old being very ambitious and career driven. He worked at The Athenaeum Hotel for 30 years in that time he has had the pleasure of meeting and cooking for many heads of state, movie stars and celebrities. David is used to dealing with people from all walks of life, nothing phases him, that is his strength! He is the calmest chef you will ever wish to meet!

David decided to take early retirement in February 2016, he had a great send off and parties galore, his intention was to have as many exotic holidays, play lots of golf and never work again... Shaw had other ideas!! he discussed with David about becoming business partners in a new pub venture, naturally David said No Way! Then .... with a little persuasion from Shaw and Jasmine (she knows how to get round her dad ) he agreed to go and visit The Plough. When David saw the kitchen he immediately saw the potential and soon changed his tune.

Maria Marshall is married to David, they met 30 years ago when she left Wales at 19 to become a Pastry chef at The Royal Garden Hotel. She was attracted to David’s cool, calm persona, they always say opposites attract! He fired her from his kitchen a few years later but that’s another story! Maria runs a very successful wedding cake business in Loose Valley with her business partner Catherine Tring. Maria often jokes that she works all day with someone with the same personality traits as her husband. They have previously won the Kent Wedding awards for their famous lemon drizzle cake and chocolate and rum cake and look forward to supplying The Plough, so watch this space! www.creativeweddingcakes.co.uk

Jasmine Marshall is David and Maria’s eldest daughter and Shaw’s partner, their eyes met across the bar one evening and the rest is history. She has a Business and Tourism Management degree and worked in the Cayman Islands for three years in Private Banking. Jasmine is still in banking and between her full time job and being a mum to Herriot Cavill she helps out with marketing and branding for the Plough.

Throughout the renovation process both Jasmine and Maria have had a lot of fun and shed the odd tear or two as they were closely involved with the interior design at The Plough and are delighted with all of the lovely feedback.

Buster is Shaw and Jasmine’s welsh border collie, he will be meeting and greeting his new doggie friends who will be most welcome in the bar.

Between the four of them and the amazing help of their builders, electricians, painters, friends and family they have worked hard to restore the pub into a beautiful relaxing place; where they want people to come and enjoy their friendly hospitality, great food and their sense of humour of course!!

Come and see for yourselves!
